One thing about me is that when I love something, trust me, I’ll talk about it a lot. And today, it’s all about my Kindle. If you are wondering if the Kindle is worth it, especially if you have an iPad, this post is also for you.
This lighthearted post is all about this little device because, honestly, it’s been a game-changer for me as a mom, a reader, and a busy woman who’s always on the go—and I’m excited to share how it can benefit you as well.
I hope at the end of this post, you will see reasons why you should get a kindle, too.
Why I Love My Kindle
Here’s the thing: as moms, we’re constantly doing everything for everyone else and leaving nothing for ourselves. I felt that, too until I discovered Kindle. It’s not just a reading device—it’s my escape, my quiet time, and my way to indulge in something I truly enjoy without distractions.
Reading Without Disrupting Sleep
One of the best things about reading on a Kindle is that I can enjoy a late-night chapter (or two) without disturbing my partner’s sleep. Its built-in front light is gentle on the eyes and won’t flood the entire room with brightness. Plus, the display mimics the look of paper, cutting down on glare and reducing eye strain. It’s the perfect way to unwind at the end of the day without keeping anyone else awake—and without giving me a headache from harsh light!
Better Than Aimless Scrolling
How many times have you picked up your phone to check something and ended up scrolling aimlessly on social media? With my Kindle, I’ve replaced that habit with something way more fulfilling—reading! Whether it’s a quick chapter between tasks or diving into a book while waiting at appointments, it feels so much more rewarding than endless swipes.
Perfect to read on the Go
Life gets busy, but my Kindle is small enough to fit in my bag, making it the perfect companion for:
- Waiting at the doctor’s office.
- Getting my nails done.
- Sitting in the car during school pickup.
- In transit
Rather than looking at my phone, I can pick up my favorite book anytime, anywhere! On my last trip, this really came in handy—I was reading while waiting for my flight and even mid-flight. I completely forgot about the in-flight entertainment!”
No Distractions
I used to read my Bible on my phone, but let’s be real—notifications popping up mid-prayer? Not ideal. With my kindle, there’s no Instagram or email notifications interrupting my quiet time. It’s just me, my book (or Bible), and uninterrupted peace.
Affordable
Books can be expensive, but it offers so many affordable options. For example:
- There’s a book I’m currently reading that would cost me $35 in hardcover, but on Kindle, it’s only $16. That means I can treat myself to a Starbucks and still come out ahead—win-win!
- Kindle books are often cheaper than physical copies, and if you use Kindle Unlimited, you get access to thousands of books for a flat monthly fee of $9.99 CAD.
Audiobooks Too
Don’t feel like reading? You can listen to audiobooks as well! You can do this while cooking, cleaning, or even doing some tasks at work.
For your little one
There’s even a perk for your kiddos! My child Ari loves browsing books with me on Kindle. If you’re anything like me and tend to go over your monthly book budget, you should definitely consider getting a Kindle. Books are often cheaper, and with Kindle Unlimited, you can read along with your little one before deciding whether it’s worth buying a physical copy. No more wasted money on books your child doesn’t really enjoy!
What I read in January

Check out that photo! These are the books I’ve finished this month, and I’m totally into Nigerian authors right now. It might not seem like a lot, but for someone who used to struggle with finishing even one book a month, it’s a huge win. Thanks to my Kindle, I managed to squeeze in reading time despite my busy schedule. All these titles were on Kindle Unlimited, and since I just got my Kindle, I scored three free months—so I read them all for free!
“You’ll notice these are all fiction books at the moment. I struggled to finish my non-fiction picks, so I’ve pushed them to February. I got a great tip from @thereadingmom.ng on Instagram: read one chapter of non-fiction each day. This month, I’ll try reading a chapter of ‘What About Me?’ (Christian) and a chapter of ‘Inspired’ (work-related) each night.” By the way, thereadingmom reads over 300 books every year. You can check her out on Instagram.
Here’s what I’m planning to read this February:
- Oh Crap! Potty Training by Jamie Glowacki
- What About Me? by Joyce Meyer
- Inspired: How to Create Tech Products Customers Love by Marty Cagan
- Adanna
A Valentine’s Day Hint

Are you thinking about what you want your spouse to get you? Don’t stay quiet—remember, a closed mouth doesn’t get fed. Ask for that Kindle! Drop a hint by sending this link, talking about its features, or even mentioning how it would help you finally tackle that reading list. You can sen
And hey, you can always treat yourself. You’ve worked hard, so why not splurge on a Kindle for some well-deserved “me time?”
If you decide not to buy the Kindle…
You can still reap its benefits even if you don’t own a physical Kindle device. All you need is the free Kindle app on your phone or iPad. With Kindle Unlimited, you can:
- Borrow as many books as you want from a massive library.
- Try out books before deciding to buy them.
- Download and read books offline—perfect for travel or when you’re out of data.
It’s a fantastic way to read more without the commitment of buying every single book.
Final Thoughts
So, Mama, if you’re tired of aimless scrolling or just need a little “me time” that fits into your busy schedule, consider getting a Kindle. I mean, I had to dedicate an entire blog post to it—it’s that good!
Love,
Tomi
