Recently, I wrote a blog post about creating a prayer schedule to stay intentional about praying daily. You can see it here. Towards the end of last year, a series of events changed my perspective. It made me reconsider prayer not just as a personal practice, but also as a way to care for my colleagues.
I faced two heartbreaking incidents. First, a software developer I work with in the East tragically lost his young daughter—she wasn’t even two years old. Moreover, his wife became unconscious and was in critical condition in the ICU. My heart broke for their family. I prayed for her recovery.
A few weeks later, another developer I worked closely with passed away unexpectedly. This moment left me devastated and shaken. I wasn’t prepared for these losses, and they stirred something deep within me.
I felt a deep conviction: I needed to be more intentional about praying—not just for work projects, but for the people behind them and their families. Often, we get so caught up in tasks, deadlines, and deliverables that we forget the humanity of the people we work with.

Be a Light in Your Workplace Through Prayer
This realization led me to make prayer a central part of my daily routine. I started praying specifically for my team members and their families, asking God to protect and bless them. Before starting any project, I pray over it, asking for wisdom, success, and peace to guide us through.
Life happens, and challenges will still come our way. However, as children of God, I believe we carry a covering that extends to those we interact with—especially our team.
Additionally, I have seen how God honors prayers. For example, the developer whose daughter passed away shared with me recently that their family is doing much better. His wife, who had been unconscious, was healed.
This experience has taught me that we can be lights in our workplaces, reflecting hope and care to those around us. It’s not just about work—it’s about showing up for people in ways that truly matter.
Once I focused on intentional prayer, I started seeing clear areas to pray for my colleagues.
I’m still learning and growing in this area, but I’d love to hear from you:
- How do you bring light to your workplace?
- What steps do you take to intentionally connect with and support those you work with?
Please share your thoughts in the comments. Let’s encourage one another to make our workplaces productive and meaningful spaces filled with care and prayer.
Thank you for reading and for being part of this journey!
Warm regards,
Tomi
